Calhoun Baptist Church News Sunday May 13, 2012, Mother’s Day~

Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor~

Mothers Day was observed this morning by honoring each mother by presenting them with a beautiful flower in a pot to take home with them, to nourish and help it grow. This is the way Mothers have taken care of their children for many years! The mother recognized for having the oldest child was Margar…et Fields! The mother for having the most children was a tie between Lori Remi and Judy Vickers who each have five children. There are times when only a mother’s love can understand our tears, can soothe our disappointments and calm all of our fears. There are times when only a mother’s love can share the joy we feel when something we’ve dreamed about quite suddenly is real. There are times when only a mother’s faith can help us on life’s way and inspire in us the confidence we need from day to day. For a mother’s heart and a mother’s faith and a mother’s steadfast love were fashioned by the angels and sent from God above. Our faithful mothers teach us how to live up to the Standard which God expects us to live, it all goes back to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Jesus is the Standard by which we will all be judged on Judgment Day. God is a just God and he knows that we all fall short of his standard. That is why Jesus took our punishment on the cross. It takes a Personal Relationship with Jesus which equals Salvation. Brother Jordan’s Sermon today was about “God’s Standard,” which is to be perfect as Jesus is perfect.

Calhoun Baptist Church News Sunday May 6, 2012

Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor~

The morning welcome, announcements and prayer were by Pastor Jordan. Then our music worship service was opened by a wonderful song with its words upon the big screen to sing along with the artist, the

Casting Crowns “Glorious Day” Living He Loved Me, Dying He saved me. Then our song leader Brother Mark Schneider continued the worship service .by leading the congregation in the following hymns “The Lilly of the Valley,” “In the Garden,” and In His Time.

The song “ln His Time” led into the message theme for Brother Jordan‘s sermon this morning. You can find this scripture in your Bible in Ephesians Ch. 4: v1- v16, NIV.

Ephesians 4:1-16 (NIV)

Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

4 :1). As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. 2). Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. 3) Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. 4). There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to one hope when you were called ; 5). one Lord, one faith, one baptism; 6). one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all.

7). But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. 8). This is why it says:

“When he ascended on high,
he took many captives
and gave gifts to his people.”

9). What does “he ascended” mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? 10 He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe. 11). Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12). to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13). until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.

14). Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming. 15). Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ. 16). From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work.

These verses tell us how important it is to have Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ. To each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe so, Christ himself gave each one of us the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers and even you and me the grace to equip us, His people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. When we are called by God to be a servant of the King, whose name is Jesus, it is a 24-7 job to reach the perfection which is like the only perfect One! Our goal is: to be perfect as Christ Jesus is perfect.

Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor

The rainy, stormy weather did not keep the worshipers of the Living Savior away from His house today! There have been reports of many storms all around us this week-end! Our prayers are going to the Father for the families that lost loved ones and for all of the folks who lost their homes and everything in them. The Lord will provide for those who need Him in times of trials like these awful storms.

The call to worship was with an old favorite hymn called “This Is My Fathers World.”with the meditation hymn being “Jesus Is the Sweetest Name I Know.” The Congregation’s voices rang out loud and clear as we sang the old familar songs of praise and honor to our Lord!

Brother Jordan’s message today was about how we will all be held accountable for our actions in our lives here on earth. His sermon comes from the Book of Luke, Ch. 12: v 1-11. There we are told about how we can not hide. There is no room for hypocrisy in being a Christian.

Luke 12

Warnings and Encouragements

1 Meanwhile, when a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling on one another, Jesus began to speak first to his disciples, saying: “Be[a] on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. 2 There is nothing concealed that will not be disclosed, or hidden that will not be made known. 3What you have said in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the roofs. 4 “I tell you, my friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body and after that can do no more. 5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after your body has been killed, has authority to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. 6 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.

8 “I tell you, whoever publicly acknowledges me before others, the Son of Man will also acknowledge before the angels of God. 9 But whoever disowns me before others will be disowned before the angels of God. 10And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven.

11 “When you are brought before synagogues, rulers and authorities, do not worry about how you will defend yourselves or what you will say, 12 for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that time what you should say.”

Chistianity is not a Secret! Christ followers should talk the talk and walk the walk! Each one of us is incredible valuable to God. The very hairs on our head are all numbered. He wants to work through us to tell others about HIS son Jesus!

Calhoun Baptist Church News, April 8, 2012 Easter Sunday~
Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor

Oh, what a glorious day to be in the house of God! We are children of a Living Savior!
Brother Jordan welcomed a Sanctuary full of Worshipers this morning! A lot of them had been in attendance for the wonderful Easter Breakfast at 8:30 A.M. It was wonderfully prepared by the men in our Brotherhood, with Brother Jim Bilbruck being the Chief Cook! The children had a wonderful time finding hundreds of Easter Eggs on the front lawn. Oh what joy the children are as they seek out everyone of them! It is our prayer that they seek the ways of the Lord as fervently as they are growing up in Christ believing families.

We were blessed with Special Music by Miss Victoria Barrow who played an Easter Special on the piano! We all enjoyed it very much!
All of the G.A. Girls have been making a Paper Chain during the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering. The girls were planning on putting a message of thankfulness on each link of the chain. The goal this year is $200.00. We now need only $78.50 to reach our goal. That is a lot of links with one for each 10 cents offered. There were so many links that it would have been entirely too difficult to put a message on each link of the chain. The GA. Leader, Sister Heather Hollinger assisted them with bringing the chain all though out the Sanctuary while G.A. Leader, Sister Shonda Self read the long list of many things the girls are thankful for on this special day remembering the Resurrected Lord Jesus.

Brother Jordan’s message today was about how God wants us to be perfect. You will find Gods Standard for us to live by in the book of Matthew Ch.5, with verse 48 being the Key Scripture this morning.

Matthew 5:48 (NIV)
48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

It says to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect. He knew that we could not meet His standard of living, so He sent His Son Jesus, the only person that was perfect to be our Sacrificial Lamb. He took our place on the cross that we may have everlasting life, when we have a Personal Relationship with Him.

PRAYER CONCERNS: Jordan & Mallory Hodges~ Helen Reynolds~ Terry Barrow~ Janice Ivey~ Claudean Brown~ Dean Northington~ Bob Ketchum~ Pete Hansen~ ~ Rusty Cowen~ Chad Price~ Shaine Thompson and Men and Women in Service of our Country~ The Extended Prayer Request are on our Bulletin Board.

Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor,

Brother Jordan’s Mother and Sister were visiting and so was Sister Mallory’s Mother and Dad!

There were a lot of guest visiting with us today! There is not enough room to mention all of them here, but guest are always welcome! We were blessed with Special Music by “The Resounding Joy Bell Choir,” from Warrensburg MO. They played the beautiful music that only they can do through out the Worship Services today. The director of the choir, Mark Schneider and his wife Lorrie and one other lady whose name is Lori who played the bells are members of Calhoun Baptist Church. We are always so pleased to have them play their “Resounding Rings of Joyful Music!”

The G.A. Girls are making a Paper Chain of Messages, one message on each link of the chain. There will be a link for every 10 cents donated to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. Our goal this year is $200.00. There is already a lot of message links. We now have 1,215 links on the chain, a total of $125.50. It will be on display in the church to encourage others to financially support missions here in North America. The G.A. Leaders, Heather Hollinger and Shonda Self will assist the G.A. Girls in hanging the Message Chain all though out the Sanctuary for Easter Sunday! That will be so beautiful along with the flowers that are placed in the Sanctuary for Easter, honoring our King Jesus!

After a short Mission’s Message, Brother Jordan brought his message about the “Triumphal Entry” of Jesus into Jerusalem. The message is found in the Book of Matthew Chapter 21.

He was treated as their King by the multitude that was there to welcome Him. A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, while others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road for Jesus to walk upon as He passed by them. Only He rode on a donkey.

After the message this morning the Lords Supper was observed to give honor to the Living Savior who died on the cross to save a world of lost sinners. If you have accepted Jesus as the Lord of your life, you were invited to partake in the Holy Communion, remembering what Jesus did for all of us.

Rev. Jordan Hodges, Pastor

Our Worship Service was opened this morning by our Pastor, Brother Jordan Hodges with a dedication of a new baby girl! Dedicating a child acknowledges God’s sovereignty not only over the child, but also Mom and Dad. Brent and Miranda Carney are the proud parents of little Emmilyn Elier Carney who was born March 12, 2012. Our Pastor, the Deacons and her parents presented Emmilyn before God and His people asking for grace and wisdom in carrying out their responsibilities. It is very important as the Church to help and encourage new parents in any way that is needed. Also, each one of us has the honor and previlege of seeing her grow into a young lady who one day will trust Jesus Christ as Savior for the forgiveness of sin.

Recognition of Birthdays and Anniversaries are always a time of celebration too! Charles and Maragret Fields and Charles and Claudean Brown were celebrating their Wedding Anniversaries this week.

The G. A. Girls are making a Paper Chain of Messages! A message on each link of the chain. There will be a link for every 10 cents donated to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions. Our goal this year is $200.00. There will be a lot of message links on this chain because there is a sum of 960 links on the chain already. It will be on display in the church to encourage others to financially support missions here in North America.

After a short Mission’s Message shown on the over-head big screen, Brother Jordan brought the message from the Book of Romans Ch:3:20-31.

“I am not good enough.” What ever you are offering, it is not good enough, as stated in verse 20. God put out a new way and that is Faith in Jesus Christ. God changed the rules about what is good, not just what, but WHO. There should be no boasting about who you are and what you do. We are justified by faith, not by works.

We are entering the time of year when we recognize what God’s son Jesus did on the cross. He was and is the only perfect person whose life was slain for the sins of a lost world. He is in Heaven now to be an intercessor for our prayers to God. Jesus rose from the dead on the third day after his crucifixion. He lives! After the services this morning we had a “Water Baptism.” This does not wash away our sins, that was already done when we first beleaved in Jesus as God’s Son. It is the outward testimony of the believer’s inward faith. A sinner is saved the moment he places his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. Baptism is a visible testimony to that faith. Brother Jordan ask the question. What keeps you from being Baptized?
