Calhoun Baptist Church News Aug. 12, 2012~

We were so honored to have Brother Bob Fenwick as our minister today. His lovely wife, Sister Arvie was with him as he brought Gods Holy Word to us this morning.

Our announcements were given by Bother Terry Barrow. Sister Lori Schneider reported  there will be a Pizza Party next Sunday for those young people who have been taking notes as the minister brings his sermon each Sunday. This is a wonderful ministry for them as they learn more about being a better servant for Jesus as they are busy growing up in a world where so many folks do not realize that it is so cool to be a Christian.

After our Contemporary Praise Music the Call to Worship song was an old favorite for many of us, it is called “Heavenly Sunlight.”  This hymn and so many others remind us how wonderful it is to be able to praise and worship a Living Savior in our country today!

Brother Bob shared the sermon the Lord had laid upon his heart from the book of John Ch. 1:19-37.

John 1:19-23

19 Now this was John’s   testimony when the Jewish leaders[a]   in Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was. 20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, “I am not the Messiah.”

21 They asked him, “Then who are you? Are you Elijah?”

He said, “I am not.”

“Are you the Prophet?”

He answered, “No.”

22 Finally they said, “Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself?”

23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness,‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

In this scripture the people were asking John the Baptist the question we all should ask ourselves. It was who are you? John explained to them that he was not the Messiah, nor Elijah or a prophet.
John replied to the priests and Levites in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

Brother Bob told us that we should be busy doing things for the Lord and he explained to us that what we do reflect whose we are! If we are His we must be going around telling others about the Messiah  John said  “He is the one who comes after me, the straps of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.”

I am known by the deeds that I do! Not by my name or what I work at to earn a living. ‘The question is “Who am I?”
