Church News – February 14th

The biblical text of Luke 12:15-21 was the inspiration for Pastor Mark Abney’s message Rich Man, Poor Man. In this scripture Jesus gives us a stern warning: Be on guard against greed. At what point does accumulating “things” become greed? When your main drive in life is seeking things more than seeking God, it becomes covetousness or greed. So how can we be “rich” towards God? Use the things God gives you wisely, and help the poor and unfortunate.

Our prayer concerns for this week include Tim Hudson, Pat Kampe, Jerry Reiners, Malachi Yoder, and Carla Smith. Also, please keep Joey Fields who is being deployed overseas again in your prayers along with all our brave soldiers.

We wish a very happy birthday to Tom Spooner whose special day is February 10th. Anniversary wishes go out to Lori and Hoss Rima who will celebrate on February 14th.

Gospel Kids are studying a new unit Into the World. This week’s story was “Jesus Was Born”.The big picture question: Is Jesus God or human? Children will discover that as the Son of God, Jesus is both fully God and fully human. Children ages kindergarten through sixth grades are encouraged to join us on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm.

Celebrate Recovery continues Sunday evenings starting with supper at 5:30 pm, large group worship at 6:30 and small group at 7:30 pm. Come join in.

This Sunday, February 16th we will have a church-wide carry-in dinner after the AM service. Everyone is invited. Bring a covered dish or two and enjoy the good food and fellowship. Mark your calendars and plan on attending.

Friday is Valentine’s Day. John 3:16 says “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” Now that’s some valentine!

You are always welcome to worship with us at Calhoun Baptist Church. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am with a class for every age then Worship follows at 11:00 am. Come join us in the work of Christ. We look forward to seeing you.
