Church News – December 6th

Angels From the Realms of Glory was the opening hymn we sang as we welcomed this advent season. Curtis Barrow told us about one of the names of Jesus as he placed an ornament on the tree and Mary Barrow shared the first Sunday in advent as Terry Barrow lit the hope candle on our advent wreath. Deacon Ken Willings brought the message “Tithing” based on scripture from 1 Corinthians 1 in the absence of our pastor.

Continued prayer is requested for Pat Kampe, Jim Bilbruck, Margie Briggs and grandson Avery, and Jerry Reiners. We extend Christian love and sympathy to the Anna Myrtle Hansen family. Praise be to God who hears and answers our prayers.

Special happy anniversary wishes to our pastor and wife Mark and Lori Abney on their 21st wedding anniversary.

Gospel Kid’s meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This month our unit title is “Christmas”. The kids will learn how God sent His Son, Jesus, to earth to be born as a baby in humble surroundings. He came as the One to save us from our sins. Christmas is the time to celebrate God’s greatest gift of Jesus Christ. Our big picture question is Why was Jesus born? Jesus was born to rescue us from sin.

Celebrate Recovery is every Sunday evening starting with supper at 5:30 pm followed by large group worship at 6:30 and small groups at 7:30 pm. The testimony of God’s people is powerful, important and necessary to be shared. This happens at CR. Come and see for yourself where God is at work.

On November 30th we decorated the church for Christ’s birthday. Chili and soup was enjoyed by all attending. You can help add additional beauty to our sanctuary by bringing a poinsettia in honor or memory of loved ones.

Saturday, December 7th at 9:00 am we will meet in the fellowship hall and sack Christmas candy and fix fruit plates. Homemade cookies and candies are needed. Come bring your goodies and help us continue these two yearly traditions.

Don’t forget about the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. We will be collecting monetary donations all month for important mission work around the world. Pray about your gift to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ. Make it part of your gift to our Savior who is the reason for the season.

You are always welcome to worship with us at Calhoun Baptist Church. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am with a class for every age then Worship follows at 11:00 am. Come join us in the work of Christ.
