Church News – December 13th

On the second Sunday of Advent the Peace candle was lit. Pastor Mark Abney titled his sermon The Genealogy of Jesus Christ from Matthew 1:1-17. Imperfect people were among the ancestors in Jesus’ family tree. But through 42 generations, God used them to bring about the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. God can use you too to bring about great things if you allow Him to work in your life. God calls us everyday to follow Him and all we have to say is “Yes”.

On our prayer list this week we find Pat Kampe, Naomi Grace and J C Manley. Christian love and sympathy is extended to the Tom Graham family. We are encouraged to know that God hears and answers every prayer.

Birthday greetings go out this week to Melissa Willings Dec. 13 and Mary Barrow Dec. 14. We wish them both a very happy birthday and blessed year.

Gospel Kid’s meets on Wednesday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 pm. This month our unit title is “Christmas”. Christmas is the time to celebrate God’s greatest gift of Jesus Christ. Our big picture question is Why was Jesus born? Jesus was born to rescue us from sin. Next week we will celebrate Jesus with a birthday party in His honor.

Celebrate Recovery is every Sunday evening starting with supper at 5:30 pm followed by large group worship at 6:30 and small groups at 7:30 pm. Come and see where God is at work.

Saturday, December 7th at 9:00 am we met in the fellowship hall and sacked Christmas candy and fixed fruit plates. The plates were personally delivered to several persons within our community and surrounding area. Sacked candy will be handed out the evening of our Christmas program.

Monetary donations are being collected for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. We will be collecting throughout the month of December. All funds will go to help spread the gospel of Jesus Christ around the world. Pray about your gift to our Savior. He is the reason for the season.

Sunday, December 15th at 6:00 pm we will have our Christmas program with “New Assembly”. Come listen to their music and be blessed. Then on Christmas Eve at 6:00 pm join us for a meaningful candlelight service. Put these dates on your calendar.

The door is always open for you to worship with us at Calhoun Baptist Church. Sunday School begins at 10:00 am with a class for every age then Worship follows at 11:00 am. Come join us in the work of Christ.
